Johnny Depp, The pictures of his character as Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates Of The Caribbean film has been reprojected on Disneyland Paris;s Castle and it comes after his triumph in a defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard. The original picture was previously removed in 2016, due to the allegations that he was labelled a ‘wife beater’ in the same year.
Initially the image was projected during a Pirates Of The Caribbean display feature in the theme park, which featured fireworks and pyrotechnics, and dialogue from Johnny’s character, Captain Jack Sparrow. But it was from The Washington Post of Amber who argued that Johnny was abusive towards her, which was later led to Disney cutting ties with the actor. Johnny spoke about the article’s effects and allegations, in which he claimed he lost a multi million pound film career and directly caused him to lose his role of Sparrow in the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise. It was confirmed by Disney production chief Sean Bailey that the actor was no longer a part of the franchise’s future plans and were the reason for suing the actress.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘We want to bring in a new energy and vitality. I love the [Pirates] movies, but part of the reason (writers) Paul (Wernick) and Rhett (Reese) are so interesting is that we want to give it a kick in the pants. And that’s what I’ve tasked them with.’
But most people felt that the official line about Johnny’s removal wasn’t the truth and many fans have demanded he be reinstated into the role.
Johnny said during his court case: “Two years had gone by of constant worldwide talk about me being this wife-beater. So I’m sure that Disney was trying to cut ties to be safe.
“The #MeToo movement was in full swing at that point.”
However, last month, a court jury returned a verdict in favour of Depp and found that Heard did defame him with her op-ed.
