Johnny Depp has been pictured as King Louis XV in the first teaser image from his upcoming film ‘Jeanne du Barry,’ the actor’s first role since winning his Defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard back in June.

The new still shows the 59-year-old blindfolded and sporting a vintage blonde wig as he steps into the shoes of the 18th century monarch. The photo, released by French company Why Not Productions, depicts the Hollywood icon wearing regal attire and shows him with a notably paler skin tone and reddened lips.

French actress Maïwenn Le Besco is playing the titular role and is also directing the film, which follows a young working-class woman who climbs the Paris social hierarchy and eventually becomes King Louis XV’s mistress.

Shooting for the upcoming period drama kicked off in July in numerous French locations, including Paris and Versailles.

The film cast also includes Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Richard, Melvil Poupaud, Noémie Lvovsky, Pascal Greggory, and India Hair.

The film is the dad-of-two’s first in French and is set to be released in 2023.

Jeanne du Barry marks the Pirates of the Caribbean star’s first major acting role in three years since he starred in the 2020 independent film, Minamata.

His confirmed return to Hollywood comes just two months after he won his court case against Amber Heard.
