Daniel Craig has changed his tune recently on his 007 career of 15 years, insisting he has “loved every second” as playing James Bond. That is despite famously saying he would “rather slash his wrists” than return as the spy.
Craig, with his five film run as MI6’s finest, is now fully at peace, labelling it as one of the “greatest honours of my life”.
An Apple TV documentary, Being James Bond, celebrates the 53-year-old’s 15 years as 007. The Chester-born star admits he was nervous about taking over from Pierce Brosnan in Casino Royale in 2006. Craig said: “I thought I would not know how to handle it, but I knew they were doing something really special. “I think I was overwhelmed. My world turned upside down. But I am incredibly proud and incredibly fortunate to do this. “I’ve loved every single second of these movies, and especially this one because I’ve got up every morning and I’ve had the chance to work with you guys, and that has been one of the greatest honours of my life.”
It was in November 2015 when doing press for Spectre, Craig said he would “rather break this glass and slash my wrists” than play the role again. Then, in 2017 at the New Yorker Festival, the actor corrected his stance. He said: “They say that s*** sticks, and that definitely stuck. It was the day after filming [ended on Spectre]. I’d been away from home for a year.”
Craig’s farewell outing as 007, No Time To Die, hits cinemas in the UK on September 30. The movie with high-octane shots from the trailer show impressive stunt scenes, with Bond’s iconic Aston Martin, underwater drama and vertigo-inducing plane scenes.
Not much is known about the plot of the film, but the official synopsis states: “Recruited to rescue a kidnapped scientist, globe-trotting spy James Bond finds himself hot on the trail of a mysterious villain, who’s armed with a dangerous new technology.”
